Havanese Dog

Origin

The Havanese belongs to the Bichon family of dogs that come from the small white dog known to have inhabited the Mediterranean for over 2000 years. Whether it is a direct descendant of the Maltese, or a Bolognese – Cross-poodle, or a Blankito of Havana – Cross-poodle, or a cross Bichon Friesland, is unknown. Exactly how the ancestors of Havana arrived in Cuba is also a matter of speculation. One of the most popular theories is that this pretty little dogs were used as gifts by merchants to attract sailors rich and influential Cuban families receive. This trick, if true, certainly worked. The dogs quickly became beloved companions of the elite. Havanese puppies were expensive and never sold, only given as a gift of immeasurable esteem and gratitude to others for social status. This association with the upper classes almost sounded the death knell of Havana in the wake of the Cuban revolution of 1959. Only a few escaped their owners in flight and race was on the verge of extinction in 1970. Fortunately, Colorado Goodale managed to live with 11 Cuban exiles Havana to detect and have been able to get a program to recover from the race start. Havanese are experiencing a renewed interest in Cuba and will be gradually better known elsewhere.

Character:

The Havanese is truly a wonderful dog. His main role, and has practiced to perfection through the ages is that of pets. His joy is to accompany his owner everywhere to relax and pamper themselves, play with and to entertain – his pleasure is your pleasure. The attachment he has with his people is absolute and without their attention and companionship, he will be unhappy and not its ability to achieve. If for long periods of separation are inevitable, then this race would not be a good choice. Although it is a toy dog that is quite hard with a high resistance, fully able to participate and play, and sports such as dog agility, flyball and canine freestyle. Its not elastic, bright eyes and roguish evidence of his playful and friendly, who, with his innate kindness, makes him a great friend of children. The Havanese dog is very sociable and generally not nervous or shy around people he does not know, but although he is a quiet dog, he barks to alert visitors before to meet and Welcome to the greatest possible simplicity. Exercise

It’s a spritely and energetic dog that will require much physical effort to get hopping around the house and garden and playing with willing participants. It is equally important for him mentally fit, and a daily walk with an interest in the form of new sights and smells of supplies, people and other dogs to meet and work with his clever mind to encourage and opportunities socialization. He will enjoy learning and perform tricks, compete in agility, flyball, obedience and tracking – that carries both body and mind.

Education:

All dogs, regardless of their size, need and deserve the basic obedience training. A dog is much happier if they know the limits of acceptable behavior and know they can count on the owner of the company, but the right direction. The Havanese has a very bright and learn quickly and respond to orders if there is a mutual bond of respect and affection. Sweet, gentle, but firm and consistent training using methods which would reward the behavior of candy and praise must be used. Discipline hard physical or verbal, negative results, ie a dog that has been broken in spirit and obey out of fear, or a dog who “farm” and not work to the arrest of doing bad things. Training should be more rewarding and fun for the dog. It is important that the Havanese should have early socialization to get used to the greatest of different things, people, animals and situations that they can expect to encounter during its life. The Havanese properly trained and socialized will be a pleasure to live with and are welcome everywhere he goes.
